ESGR
AND HERZOG JACKSON MOTORSPORTS HEAD FOR GATEWAY
CHARLOTTE,
N.C. (May 8, 2003) – Todd Bodine and Herzog Jackson Motorsports
(HJM) will make their way west to Gateway (Ill.) International Raceway
this weekend for the running of the Charter Pipeline 250. Employer
Support of the Guard and Reserves (ESGR) will be a partner for the
No. 92, having signed a six-race deal with HJM which will allow the
racing team to continue their quest for the 2003 NASCAR Busch Series
Championship.
Based
in Arlington, Virginia, ESGR was created in 1972 to act as a buffer
between those serving in the Guard and Reserves and their full-time
civilian employers. Due to the draft being phased out by the United
States government in the early 1970's, the need for those serving
in the Guard and Reserves to respond to the call of duty is of great
importance.
Realizing
that those serving in the Guard and Reserves may face a potential
roadblock when leaving their jobs to answer the calls of duty, the
United States formed this committee to inform employers of the extreme
importance of the Guard and Reserves. Volunteers are now posted in
every National Guard Armory and Reserve center across the country
to help minimize conflicts that may arise between their military duties
and civilian employment obligations.
With
new partnership in tow, Todd Bodine and HJM are making the trek to
Madison, Illinois (located just across the border from St. Louis,
Missouri) with high aspirations in mind. Having only run at the 1.25-mile
track five times previously, Bodine ranks sixth overall in the category
of drivers who have completed the most laps. Out of those five starts,
he has posted three top-10 finishes, with a third-place finish, his
best coming in July of 2000. Bodine also currently ranks first in
the 2003 NASCAR Busch Series driver's points standings, 40 points
ahead of second place.
"We're
going to go to Gateway this weekend with confidence, just like we
have gone into every race so far," stated Bodine. "The fact
that ESGR has come on board is really a boost for this team who have
devoted a lot of time and energy into making this team so successful.
Hopefully I can drive the No.92 to victory lane and continue the success
that our team has proved to have week in and week out."
Live
television coverage of the Charter Pipeline 250 will begin at 2:30
pm EDT on FX. MRN Radio will also broadcast the event live beginning
at 2:30 pm EDT.
